If you camp for peace and quiet, to enjoy nature and relax: this is the campground for you. No golf carts, no loud music, no traffic, no pool, no playground and best of all; not a thing you have to do except walk the park or the nature trail and relax. People were friendly but not invasive. The park is about a mile off the road, so no traffic noise, plenty of great restaurants and shopping just a mile away if you need them. Plenty of things for the tourist to see and do. Sites are level, lots of trees made it a little dicey with our big rig and slides but it fit fine. This was a wonderful experience and we will be back.
Overall this is a very nice park. Right on the river, just over the bridge from downtown Natchez, MS. It was very clean and quiet. We were there during a fairly slow time, but the spaces are rather close together, and it could get crowded when busy. Nice riverwalk, recreation room, store and pool, all clean and well stocked. The only item we found odd was that there is no staff in the park after the office closes. So if something is wrong, such as a power failure, you're pretty much on your own until morning. The local police department does cruise through the park occasionally. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.
This is a beautiful park, signs of Katrina are still present, but plenty of trees, shades. The beach and broadwalk are very nice, the pier is great. The camp staff was helpful, the current hosts are awesome, friendly and knowledgable about the park. The visitor center is interesting. Most sites are very generous, but be careful on the pull thrus...they can be very tight curves. Highly recommend this state park. Well worth the visit. Can't wait to go again.
Great reservation system, you know your spot when you get there, you can pull in and get hooked up before going to register at the casino. It's $10 but you get $10 credit to play in the casino, so that equals free. Large spaces, but NO shade. Spots face north/south so not much shade morning or night even under the awning. Nothing for the kids, there is a playground, but it's well away from the park. We enjoyed our stay and will go back again, but in fall or winter, when not so hot. Mosquitos were bad in the evening if you do try to sit outside.
Chicot is a beautiful park, mixed pines and hardwood. When we arrived, the spot we had chosen from ReserveAmerica was extremely sloped, we could not level in it but a call to the office, and we were offered another spot. Stayed in the north side, it is older and they say it's not as nice as the south side, so bit of caution on reservations, many sites are not level and sloped. However, stayed away from the outside spots, go to the inside and they are very level. The north side is the quieter side if that is what you're looking for. Great lake, boating, fishing and trails. This is a very large park. We enjoyed our stay and plan to return.
This is older campground. Needs some TLC. Concrete pads are crumbling. It's fine for overnight. We asked for quiet spot but were assigned a spot right next to highway so people/kid noise quiet, but traffic noise was loud. Have to wear plastic wrist band entire time in park, it was very uncomfortable in the heat. Great place if you have kids, tons of water features, golf carts everywhere they rent them here so they are up and down roads constantly. Only saw one staff person, she was friendly, no security in evidence.
Very nice park, clean and very well maintained. Management is on site and involved. If you're on the road side, there is some traffic noise including larger trucks. Nice lake you can fish in or ride a non-motorized boat. Sites are a little close together, but it's a quiet park at least during the week. We weren't here over a weekend. We definitely plan to visit here again for a longer time, we could only stay one night this time.
Not a nice experience at all. Planned to stay for 4 nights. Had to move from first site the first night because of large, noisy party. Casino would rather we moved (even though we were 2nd guest to complain) than enforce the rules on other campers. So moved into lovely spot right next to river, but found out the gnats were so bad we could not sit outside. Then went over to casino next morning, returned a couple hours later to find river rising into camp, one foot from patio. Had to move again. Manager not at all concerned about inconvenience to us. Left the next day. 3 spots in 4 days a bit much. Casino was ok, but very tight on comps. Spent over $800 and still charged full price for spot. Won't revisit them...very different attitude since hurricane Katrina.
Park is recovered from recent hurricanes, including Ike and Gustav. Owners are very present and involved with management. Staff is friendly without being invasive. Although there are several full time residents, everyone obeys the rules. Very family oriented, but still maintains a quiet restful air. Park is kept clean...they do escort you to your site and help you get set up. We've stayed here several times and plan several more visits in the near future. But get reservations..esp around the holiday weekends...they fill up. Park is popular with Lafayette and Baton Rouge residents looking for a quick get away.
